Curriculum - Key Stage 1 (5-6 years)
In Years 1 and 2 a gentle progression into more formal school life is provided. Each form is taught by a qualified teacher, supported by a Pre-Prep classroom assistant.Whole class, group and individual teaching is chosen according to subject, age and ability.
Play continues to enhance learning, adding practical understanding to classroom lessons.
Emphasis is given to Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and IT and these are complemented by Geography, History, French (from the age of 4) and Religious Education.
As the children progress through the Pre-Prep they will be introduced to additional teaching staff in specialist areas including Music, Physical Education, and a Modern Foreign Language.
IT is an integral part of learning in all subjects. Pupils are able to use our mobile IT Unit, comprising lap top computers, projector and digital cameras to enhance their learning.
Homework is introduced gradually. Children take home a scheme reading book daily, and learn weekly spelling lists which are tested in school. Homework is always purposeful and encourages children to become independent workers.
Besides enjoying a range of curriculum-based excursions throughout the year, pupils are frequently able to experience a variety of visiting workshops and guest speakers. See Trips, Events & Visitors.
Achievement, improvement and positive behaviour are encouraged and rewarded in our 'Gold Star' assemblies as well as by House Points and Merit Badges.
