Curriculum - Key Stage 2 (7-11 years)

Girls are encouraged to stretch themselves and enjoy the challenges of the expanding curriculum, whilst developing personal and social skills.

We follow the National Curriculum in the breadth and balance of our courses, however we add many extra experiences and opportunities for learning. ICT supports every aspect of the curriculum and Preparatory students share the excellent Senior School facilities.

Progress from year to year is supervised by subject co-ordinators. Specialist teachers teach Art, Design Technology, Food Technology, Drama, French, German, Music and Physical Education. The high staff/pupil ratio ensures that successful combination of personal care and individual attention that a small school is able to offer.

Girls sit internal school examinations in February and June as well as the NFER test in English and Mathematics at the end of each year. There is automatic transfer from St David's Prep into the Senior School, however we still expect them to take the entrance exam in January so that we can assess their academic level against external candidates. Many of our girls will also sit the scholarship exam.

Girls learn to become increasingly responsible for themselves and others. Good manners and consideration for others are values that are fundamental to our life at St. David’s.

In Year 6 girls take on positions of responsibility. The staff chooses the Head and Deputy Head girls, and pupils are invited to apply for the roles of House Captains and Vice House Captains.
