Academic Departments - Geography
Geography is taught from Year 7 in mixed ability classes, through to GCSE and A/S & A2. It is an extremely popular option and this dynamic department thrives on the enthusiasm and feedback from the students. The girls learn in an independent and hands on manner, taking part in role plays, creating PowerPoint presentations and teaching each other.
Our Year 7 and Year 8 programme focuses on delivering a curriculum designed to equip the students to be effective geographers. Alongside learning the basic skills and new concepts, the traditional physical and human geography is also taught. Students entering Year 9 begin to diversify into learning about World Poverty and Inequality. At GCSE and A level the girls cover the Edexcel Syllabus.
During the year we invite guests to enhance the delivery and recently a Hazard Manager from London came to the school to talk to the AS and A2 groups. The girls also attend a number of conferences throughout the year to support them in their studies.
Fieldwork and trips are integral to the Geography curriculum and currently the Year 10 GCSE group visit Somerset for river and coastal studies during a residential weekend.
In 2008 there was a whole school Geography Trip to Iceland and New York.
This helps students develop their organisational and decision-making skills as well as being great for teamwork.

At A/S and A2 level Geography is a popular choice. Traditionally straddling both the Arts and Science, it is highly favoured by Admissions Tutors for entry into diverse professions such as Medicine, Law, and Business Studies.
