Academic Departments - Music

The Music Department is a vibrant department presenting over 25 musical events each year, including music assemblies, chamber concerts, large end of term concerts, lunchtime concerts for each year group and a music competition.

The department runs 18 extra-curricular music activities, including junior choir, senior choir and string, flute, brass, wind and recorder groups. We also have a handbell group, a samba band and several theory groups.

The school choir has staged large works such as Handel’s Messiah in conjunction with local amateur choral societies and lighter works such as ‘High School Musical’ and ‘Wicked’. There is also a teachers choir which makes regular appearances at school events throughout the year.

Music facilities include 6 practice rooms and two teaching rooms with a dedicated computer system. Composition is encouraged throughout the school and pupils perform their own works at concerts and have also composed music for school drama productions.

The department has 2 specialist music teachers and 13 experienced visiting instrumental teachers offering a full range of lessons on all the main orchestral instruments. Over 100 instrumental lessons are taught each week and outstanding Associated Board Music Results are achieved each term.
