Academic Departments - Religious
Education
The aims of Religious Education for girls at St. David’s are:
To understand the distinctive nature of religion and the contribution of religious and spiritual insights to deepening people’s search for meaning in life.
To develop an appreciation of the varieties of faith including those well established ethical traditions that are present in our society
To develop confidence in their own beliefs and values.
In Key Stage 3, pupils follow a course that includes the major world religions. In Year 7 they do an introductory unit on beliefs and scripture, and then an extensive study of Christianity. In Year 8 they look at Hinduism and Islam, and in Year 9 Sikhism and Buddhism.
In Key Stage 4 Religious Education is incorporated into our Personal, Social and Health Education programme. The course concentrates on modern social issues such as prejudice and ways of addressing discrimination.
