Gymnastics - National Finals 2009
National Acrobatics Gymnastics Competition
Stoke on Trent 25th & 26th April 2009
Our Gym Squad of 13 girls travelled to Stoke on Trent last weekend to represent St David’s and the London Region in the National finals. In front of a capacity crowd, British Gymnastics paid tribute to the girls and acknowledged the contribution St David’s has made to school gymnastics. The results were truly outstanding and girls really did go out in style!
Over the two days of competition, there were over 1000 gymnasts and 150 routines, representing 15 regions of the UK.
Katie Axten and Abi Ralph were the first competitors of the day, wowing the judges and scoring the highest mark of the whole competition. Katie has won 8 National Titles for the school and Abi has set a new record by winning 5 consecutive National Titles in the same event, at U11, U13 & U19 level.
Not to be out done, Kim Hunter and Jo Jo Perryman and Anne-Marie Seabourne and Chantelle Murphy also won their events and became National Title holders. Kim, Jo Jo and Anne-Marie won this event last year, but this was the first gold medal at National level for Chantelle. The group competition is always closely contested and this year was no different. Our U13 squad won the gold medal and the U19 the silver medal, a fantastic achievement! First gold medals were won by Loriah James, Betty Martin, Mia Stoop and Sandra Clement.
