School Life - Duke of Edinburgh
Award Scheme
St. David's holds its own operating licence for this popular and worthwhile scheme.
Girls may begin their Bronze Award at age 14, their Silver at 15 and their Gold at 16. However, they have until the age of 24 to complete any level.
At Bronze and Silver level girls must complete four sections: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and the ever popular Expedition. We train them and help them to organise the expedition, whilst they arrange their activities within the other sections themselves, with help and advice if needed.
If they progress to the Gold level they will have developed the confidence and organisational skills to arrange all sections of their award independently. Again, the D of E team are there to help and advise as necessary, particularly with the preparation for the new demands of the fifth section, a residential activity.
The award is one of personal achievement and can be tailored to the interests of the individual. It provides a programme that helps young people develop confidence and self-esteem, broadening the experiences of those who participate. All who take part are justifiably proud of their achievements.
