School Life - Events and
Visitors
The school calendar is further enriched by
the many special events throughout the year and by interesting
visitors who are so warmly welcomed by the girls.
On 1st March 2007
the girls celebrated St David's Day with their traditional
Eisteddfod. Events included "Pennies
round Wales", rugby ball race, fancy dress, a staff versus
pupils netball match and the house music competition.
In the autumn term students are rewarded for their achievements
in the past year on Speech Day. Recent guest speakers have
included Martin Bell CBE, Angela Rumbold and Dr. Vincent
Cable, MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer.
In 2006 we welcomed BBC Weather Forecaster Phil Avery. Mr
Avery delivered a very entertaining talk just before he set
off on his around the world sailing expedition.

Shakespeare's 'As You
Like It' was performed for 3 nights in March 2007 to
enthusiastic audiences who were impressed by a very
professional production.
Other
drama performances in 2007 featured extracts from 'Daisy
Pulls it Off' & 'The Accrington Pals' - both productions
were part of Year 11 Drama course |

A
variety of Sports Events take place throughout the
year ranging from the St David's Day Teachers
v Pupils Netball challenge to Football Coaching from
a UEFA qualified coach as well as the more traditional
swimming gala and netball & hockey tournaments.

On the last day of
the autumn term the houses compete in the Osborne Trophy, writing
and performing a short play, and creating a series of costumes
and props.
HRH Princess Anne visits |
|
Our
most famous guest arrived by helicopter in March 2006.
We were thrilled to welcome HRH The Princess Royal.
Also
in the spring we hold a Careers Fair. This year nearly
50 organisations attended, many offering to return
later in the year. We have held evenings concentrating
on Medicine, Law & were especially delighted to
welcome ITN’s Sue Saville and Isobel Lang from
the Met. Office, to our Media evening. |
In the summer we fully
utilise our environment with Sports Day and kayaking sessions
in the lake. We also hold an Art Exhibition of the latest A
level pieces. The highlight for the Sixth Form though, must
be the School Prom, whilst younger girls eagerly anticipate
the Spring Valentine’s Disco.
